Christmas 2020

Members,

Here we are approaching the end of a very difficult year, a year which has tested many of us emotionally, mentally, physically and financially.

Coronavirus is the one single factor that has had a detrimental impact on every single nation and affected each and everyone of us in someway or other.

I am extremely thankful that all of our members have either avoided or beaten Covid 19. I am in no doubt that there are difficult times ahead so we need to be extra vigilant to ensure we keep ourselves and everyone around us safe.

Thank you for continuing to support our club throughout the last year. We remain in a strong financial position although our fundraising through social activities was very limited.

It is fantastic to see so many new members joining and I am delighted to report that our membership has increased by approximately 20%.

Although water activities had been limited many of you got to enjoy the small window of opportunity that we were given to get out on the Lough.

The Club grounds provided a safe haven for many of you throughout lockdown and it was great to see you utilising and enjoying the facilities that we are so privileged to have. I am sure they will again over the coming weeks and months.

Thank you to our Club Officers and Committee Members who has worked with and supported me throughout 2020, I am very grateful to all of you.

I look forward to the forthcoming year and hope we are in a very different position by early spring.

The river has now been dredged and I am hopeful that it will enable sailing to recommence as soon as Covid restrictions allow, renovations are going ahead as planned and hopefully all of us who wish to avail of the vaccine will receive it.

Christmas 2020 will be very different for many of us this year, parties have been cancelled and opportunity to meet with family and friends has been restricted but at least we have hope that there are better times to look forward too and share with each other.

It will also be difficult for our members who have lost loved ones over the last year so my thoughts will be with each of you over the Christmas period.

Bearing this in mind I would like to wish each and everyone of you a very Happy & Peaceful Christmas and an extremely prosperous 2021.

Take care and keep safe,

John
