Weather on Lough Neagh
Weather conditions on Lough Neagh vary considerably over its vast expanse of water.
The Lough can be dominated by a prevailing South Westerly wind, however this can change very rapidly.
The varying depths of water across the body of Lough Neagh can contribute to the turbulence experienced by water sport enthusiasts who can often find the Lough flat and calm in parts whilst in other areas it can change within a short period of time, on occasion within a 5-10 minute time frame.
Most users of the Lough have completed RYA courses which provide the skills and background knowledge necessary to competently operate a craft on Lough Neagh. The courses cover all aspects of boating and the participants become self-sufficient in the right conditions, aware of their limitations and that of their craft.
Lough Neagh provides a pathway to five counties, each of them offering areas of natural beauty and variances in culture, tradition and weather. Always check the weather conditions and keep you and your vessel safe.
