Autumn Update 2021
Members,
As we approach winter, most of the restrictions have lifted but the Covid situation remains unstable therefore, we all have a responsibility to take necessary precautions and keep both others and ourselves safe. I know some of you have experienced the effects of this virus but thankfully you have recovered or in the process of recovery.
It was with deep regret that I learnt of the death of our member Aubrey Kincaid Junior; I would like to take this opportunity to convey our condolences to the Kincaid family.
We had a successful Summer Series with as many as nine boats participating adding colour and excitement on the Lough and observed by many on both sides of the Six Mile River. Thanks to Alan Reilly and his team for his time and effort in organising the series.
Congratulations to Jeff Harrison who was the overall winner at Ballyronan Regatta, not forgetting Ivan Miles who took first in the Cruiser/Sports Class.
Antrim Boat Club had great success in the Cat’s cradle, with the Cup returning to Antrim. A big thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations to Fait Accompli, Corinthian and Tenacious for securing the cup, great team effort and team racing at its best.
Our Winter Race series commences on Sunday 07 November 2021, I am looking forward to a successful series with club and visiting boats participating.
Our club renovations are nearing completion, with plans for the lift to be ready for installation before Christmas. Refurbishment was not only necessary, but also the results made it worthwhile. Work needs to continue for club development and fundraising will become a focus for us to proceed.
Membership renewals are now due and everyone will have noticed an increase in fees. This is not something the committee has taken lightly, but is completely necessary in order to meet the running costs of the club
Antrim Boat Club has always been a self-help club, however, the number of members attending clean up days and contributing to the general overall maintenance of the club has declined, and therefore we have had no other option but to buy in services. The increase in membership fees is to cover these additional services and meet the rising costs of general running expenses.
The £30 discount applied in the past was to encourage members to pay fees early however the loss of income through this privilege is no longer sustainable.
The reduction of Junior and student fees is to promote sailing and attract younger members.
We are introducing an upgraded electronic system for both the gate and front door, which we hope, will be operational week commencing 25 October. This will increase security around the site. A charge needs to be applied to cover costs. Information will be distributed by email as soon as dates are confirmed.
I hope this provides an insight and understanding regarding the fee increase however I am happy to address this or any other individual concerns that you may have.
